DIY Beginnings...The Invitations

I've always been a extremely domesticated and crafty girl. In high school, I took sewing and cooking classes and it just ballooned from there. I've always had that knack for creativity. So, before I even got engaged, I knew that my wedding would be ninety percent hands on. Meaning my hands on all kinds of craft supplies to make things for the wedding. Lol.

It started with my invitations. I know, I know. It sounds like a ton of work but a lot of crafty brides are making their own invites these days. I for one think it's awesome! I mean think about, for all these years, brides have paid these companies all this money to do something they probably could've done themselves and for way less money.

So let me give you the background on my invites. I went to a bridal show here in Milwaukee about a year ago, exactly a year ago now that I think of it. While there, I fell head over heels in love with all of the invites done by this small company based in Illinois called Invitations by Gina (www.invitationsbygina.com). I made sure to hold on to the card that they gave me so that I could visit their website once I got home. When I did go on their site, I learned that the invites were $5.95 each. A price I wasn't willig to pay. So I ordered a sample, took it apart and created it myself. I just simply went to Michaels, bought all the papers that I wanted for my invites, traced the pieces from the dismantled invite, cut them out, glued them together, added the crystals and wa la! And that's my tutorial. Lol.

Here's theirs (photo belongs to Invitations by Gina)......

And here's mines........

I hope this inspired more brides to get crafty...you can do it!!

Wow!!!!

This is a bit overwhelming. One of my fellow bee sisters suggested that I start blogging and here I am. But geesh!! Where do I start? Do I go back and start from the beginning or do I start from here?

Hmmm...questions, questions. Anyway, I'm happy to be here it seems that everyone is blogging these days.

A little about me. I'm a 30 year old daycare owner who is getting married to my Prince Charming on June 19th, 2010. I've always loved everything that has to do with weddings. From as far back as I can remember, I've always had a passion for planning them. It's my dream to own a second hand bridal shop and there I'll also offer my services as a planner.

I've done several weddings in the past including my own mother's so, I knew that planning my own would come easy to me.

So here I am.....and here begins my rantings. I'll try and go back and take you through the step by step process without boring you half to death.

1st post...complete! Success!!
